It's not just the kids who were enthusiastic about monsters... the kids at heart were excited as well! Doesn't this hat match her outfit perfectly? It was a great weekend of seeing old fans and meeting new ones!
I think this picture sums up the weekend... so much fun! Pictured above are some HUGE knit monster fans modeling the two styles of hats. Thanks guys, it was great to see you again.

Welcome to the first erinmakesstuff craft night. To set the scene, I just got back from Zumba [<3] and took a shower and it's about 9:30pm. It's Wednesday and this project will, if all goes as planned, be a bridal shower gift for my awesome monster-lovin' friend Ashley. Bridal Shower gift = gotta get done by Friday. I plan to get it done tonight. It's craft night and this time we're painting. Ready? Set? Let's do some last minute craftin'. Inspiration: Ashley and Mike love going to concerts and a few months ago I went with them to see Iron and Wine. It was great. I'm not good at music criticy stuff so I'll leave it at "great." Last time I visited their house I saw The Shepherd's Dog CD lying on their table. Then I got an idea. They have two dogs so maybe I could mimic a similar style and paint portraits of their daschunds, Lily and Sophie. Results: So... the results were far less colorful than the inspiration. As I was painting, all the brighter pinks and purples ended up more muted tones. I could have fixed that simply by using a different blue to mix my purples or by glazing pinks over the lighter areas. I'm going to keep them as is since they turned out cute. I hope Ashley and Mike like them! Thanks for looking! Below are pictures of the process... you may have to click "Read More" to see.
Well, what have I learned since the last post? Two things. First, knitting is SUPER HARD with a broken finger. It's not impossible. I've been trying. It's just SO SLOW. Thus I have nothing new to post monsterwise. Second thing, it's really easy to fall behind in a 52 project. Remember my idea to post a new drawing every week for a year? Well... I'm already a few weeks behind. I'm going to start it back up though. There will be a new post August 20th to unveil a project. But I can't post it until then because it's also a present! :) What have I been doing? Well, I had the awesome opportunity to teach art to campers ages 8-13 near Rochester, NY. Lucky lucky me! The kids were super, as were the staff. Here's some of the staff art work on display at the finale art show. Four are mine. Can you guess which ones? [Answer at the end of this post.] Sometimes I babysit my favorite little girl on the planet! Although she looks glum, she was having a blast. And I've been painting and redecorating, which is a slow and tedious process partly because of the broken finger but mostly because I have too much stuff! It's coming along.
That's enough of a peek into my life for the moment. Soon I'll be all healed and it'll be back to business as usual on erinmakesstuff.com. [My pictures are I <3 Art and Erin on the left, the monsters in the upper right and the fish on the lower right] |
