It has been a busy summer so far. I haven't done any big shows yet, but I've had enough on my plate to keep me busy. A lot of the things I have been doing are very different than what I usually and I am learning a lot. I volunteered my skills to help with all the design work for Billapalooza: The Sheehan Sunshine Music Festival, a benefit to help out a retired teacher from my old high school who suffered severe brain injuries after he was hit by a drunk driver. Even though I never had this man as a teacher, I really relate to his struggle. I was in a very bad accident last year and know how quickly your life can change from something that is completely beyond your control. It is a miracle that I am even here and I thank God every day that I am. So many people helped me out then. Now it's my turn to help someone else. My work started with a poster. The event is called "Billapalooza: The Sheehan Sunshine Music Festival" and the organizers wanted the poster to be bright and colorful. I drew the design for the poster freehand on a big piece of Bristol board and then colored it in Photoshop. Everyone liked the poster so much that I was asked to design other merchandise to sell at the event. I designed a tshirt, bag, bumper sticker, magnet and pin which will all be included in a "Sunshine Pack" people can purchase with their ticket. It has been a lot of work, but very rewarding. As each item is delivered, it is a lot of fun to see how it turned out. I hope that I can do more work like this in the future. I've already utilized some of what I've learned to design new cards for my business. More about that later! But that's a small snippet of what I've been working on. If you'd like to make a donation to the Billapalooza benefit, here's a link.
